Wow, didn’t see that comin’

Ever since the Dow Jones / NewsCorp merger, the “what is going to happen to MySpace ” jokes have pretty much been legion. Those of us, here at “the Factiva ” who feel like we know a little bit about, ya know, the internet and stuff, were pretty much chomping at the proverbial interactive bit, for a crack at maybe improving the usability and performance of the old gray mare of social networking. Like for example not programming in cold fusion or say, making template creation at least a little easier than understanding time travel.
But today, it seems like none of that matters anymore as it seems Myspace, (along with numerous others) are joining Google’s Open Social .
Of course there’s no guarantee that any of this will make MySpace more usable, considering they are still committed to their own platform (and we know how well they’ve done thus far). But it is interesting as a first step perhaps, to other things that may be in the works.
This “secret” partnership has apparently been going on for over a year now, and makes you wonder what else Google and Uncle Rupert have been taking about and what this might mean for the rest of us making Web sites for the Dow Jones/Factiva/Newscorp Full Text empire of doom…
