Lumps of it…

Posted by Toner under: Nerd Culture; Uncategorized .

I’m not sure why, but this just popped into my head today…

There’s a line in Monty Python’s “Life of Brian,” that I think may be the funniest line every uttered in a movie.

They’ve mistakenly taken Brian for Jesus and have begun the process of crucifing him. So one of the characters, realizing they have the wrong guy, runs back to Roman jail and is yelling “Brian? Has anyone seen Brian?

And Terry Gilliam, playing one of the Roman guards, in typical “Gumby” fashion replies:

I like banging bricks together on my head...

“We’ve got lumps of it round back.”

Ok. Lets dissect this a second…

“Has anyone seen Brian?”

“We’ve got lumps of it round back.”

I mean, how do you even write something like that? Like what part of your brain says “the proper response for this question should be ‘we’ve got lumps of it round back.’”

I mean it’s not really like the word “Brian” sounds like anything you would have lumps of round back right?

Just amazing.

I think is a sort of play on words - brian looks alot like brain. Perhaps there were lumps of brain in the back of the jail.

Well, that’s what I think anyway.

So did the US get “The Two Ronnies” - in the 70’s? Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett? I’m just reading the biog because I just loved that show and they did a lot of work in the 60’s with nearly all of the MOnty Python crew BEFORE they became Monty Python….so interesting (well to me anyway) how all of those amazing talents found each other…..
